Matt was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He graduated from Barbe High School in 1998 with honors.  Matt then attended Louisiana State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business management in May 2003.  While at LSU, Matt was named to the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List on multiple occasions.  Matt attended law school at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas.  He received his Juris Doctorate in May 2006, graduating in the top 15% of his class.  During law school, Matt received the J.D. Hirsch Scholarship Award and was inducted into the Phi Delta Phi Honors Fraternity.

Matt joined Mudd & Bruchhaus in July 2014.  Prior to joining the firm, Matt devoted the majority of his practice to personal injury litigation.   Matt’s practice at the firm covers a wide variety of civil litigation and transactional work, but continues to focus on litigation, with emphasis on representing plaintiffs in the following types of cases:

  • Environmental Litigation – Oilfield Contamination

  • Personal Injury Litigation – Automobile

  • Personal Injury Litigation – 18 Wheeler

  • Personal Injury Litigation – Jones Act

  • Personal Injury Litigation – Offshore Platforms/Rigs

  • Personal Injury Litigation – Longshoremen

  • Workers’ Compensation Litigation – On-the-job Injuries

Matt has successfully tried numerous jury trials, bench trials, and workers’ compensation cases across southwest Louisiana.

Matt is admitted to practice before the following: All Louisiana state courts; All Texas state courts; United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana; United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana; United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Professional Associations include: Southwest Louisiana Bar Association (executive council member 2009-2012; treasurer 2012); Louisiana State Bar Association (member of Leadership Class 2013; member of House of Delegates June 2014-present); American Bar Association; Southwest Louisiana Bar Foundation; Judge Albert Tate American Inn of Court; and Texas State Bar Association.

Matt has served on numerous local boards of directors and advisory boards for schools, churches, and charitable organizations.  Matt is presently serving on the Trust Board for Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic School in Lake Charles.

Additionally, Matt has organized and moderated numerous Continuing Legal Education seminars for clients, the local bar association, and the state bar association.  He has also lectured at such Continuing Legal Education seminars on topics including insurance litigation, premises liability, and workers’ compensation.

Matt and his wife Amanda have been married since July 2007.  They have two children, Rylee and Miles.  The Keatings are members of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
